The Detroit Red Wings honoured the late Gordie Howe Monday night during their home opener against the Ottawa Senators.
A tribute video played during a commercial timeout was followed by a loud standing ovation from fans at Joe Louis Arena, who held up No.9 signs and chanted “Gordie.”
Players are also wearing a No. 9 patch on their sweaters this season to salute the Red Wings legend, who played 25 years in the uniform and won four Stanley Cups.
Howe died on June.10 at the age of 88.
