The Saskatoon Folkfest is returning for its 40th anniversary Aug. 15-17.
The event is made up of 17 pavilions representing different cultures. They’ll be set up in locations across the city. Each will host entertainment and food from around the world.
Jay Kalra has been Folkfest’s president since the 20th anniversary. He said he’s proud of their accomplishments since then.
“We have been able to recognize the veterans of Saskatchewan (and) the youth of Saskatchewan, so there are a lot of memories to consider,” he said.
He thinks they can keep going for much longer.
“I’m hopeful that it will move forward for another 40 years,” he said. “The board of directors is committed to the longevity of the festival and creating inclusivity of many cultures.”
Terresa DeMong is the event’s executive director. She said working in her position has given her a new perspective.
“I started coming to Folkfest when I was a child. I brought my children, my daughter danced at the pavilion, I was a volunteer, and so now it’s an opportunity to look at it from a different aspect,” she said.
Four temporary bus routes will run between the pavilions.
