The Saskatoon Fire Department issued an update Monday morning following a blaze that damaged two houses Sunday.
Investigators found that a fire that broke out Sunday afternoon on the 100 block of Saguenay Drive was caused by improperly disposed-of firepit ashes, according to a Saskatoon Fire Department media release.
The ashes were reportedly still hot when they were placed in a dumpster between two homes.
The resulting fire caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to one home and another $100,000 in damage to the neighbouring house.
