Saskatchewan producers could be in for a good year

Saskatchewan farmers could be looking at a nice harvest this year. 

According to the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, conditions are good across the province. The association is also asking grain companies as well as shippers to be ready to move a larger than normal crop.    

Todd Lewis has a 1,200-acre farm near Gray, south of Regina, and says moisture conditions have been good.

“(We’ve) certainly been getting lots of rain since the crop has been put in.”

With this rain coming, Lewis said that some lower lying areas of his land have actually been too wet. That could mean problems for certain crops.

“For the lentils and so on, there actually going a little bit backwards. We could use some hot weather.” 

Lewis said that if July is warm and dry, his crops should do well. But Lewis is still cautious.

“We’re a long way from getting stuff in the bin yet.”
