The man responsible for a 2015 car chase that ended in a twisted wreck in the middle of downtown Saskatoon was sentenced Friday.
Bradley Derek Vestby, 36, was arrested Jan. 10, 2015 after leading police on a 35-minute long car chase throughout the city.
Vestby pointed and fired what was later found to be a replica air pistol at pursuing officers during the chase, causing them to fire between 10 and 12 rounds back at him.
The chase ended when police rammed the vehicle Vestby was driving near the intersection of 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue, in the heart of the downtown district. Police reported that no one was injured.
At the time, Vestby was charged with over a dozen counts. The charges included several weapons offences, along with counts of dangerous driving, evading police and possession of methamphetamine. After his arrest, police also determined Vestby had several warrants out for his arrest. All told, he was facing 28 charges.
Parole Board of Canada documents obtained by News Talk Radio showed Vestby has a lengthy criminal history including domestic violence, armed robbery and assault.
On Friday in Saskatoon Provincial Court, a judge sentenced Vestby to four years and eight months in prison.
