Inmate dies in Saskatoon jail

A man has died while on remand at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

The province’s Ministry of Corrections and Policing issued a release Thursday saying the inmate was found unresponsive in his bunk and pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon.

Ministry staff had reportedly informed the man’s family of his death.

Police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been called in to investigate. The ministry will also conduct its own internal investigation.
