The Saskatchewan Health Authority will begin distributing free flu shots this week.
The vaccinations will be available provincewide starting Oct. 22 at public health clinics, local pharmacies and some doctor’s and nurse practitioner offices.
This year should see vaccinations more widely available than ever, with 340 of 380 Saskatchewan pharmacies participating.
Those wishing to get themselves and their loved ones vaccinated in Saskatoon also have the option of attending a clinic this weekend at Prairieland Park.
The clinic will run from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, then from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and again from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.
A health authority news release recommended everyone get the flu shot. In particular, the authority advised that the shot should be given to young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with health conditions that might weaken their immune system, as these groups are especially at risk of developing complications from the flu.
