One candidate who has been a target this election is Bill Boyd.
The Saskatchewan Party’s Kindersley area incumbent was pinpointed by the NDP as an example of someone on the “gravy plane”.
The NDP claimed Boyd billed the taxpayers for $245,847.12 just for personal flight mileage and at least $148,000 more for special flight privilege charges.
Boyd is defending his record.
“Whenever we use the government plane, we take it very seriously. Often there are other members of the legislature, other ministers on the flight.”
Following the initial criticism from the NDP, News Talk Radio reporters called Boyd’s office to request an interview, but those calls were not returned.
Boyd maintains he is working hard on the doorsteps of his area and is not hiding.
“The NDP really don’t have much of an issue out there to capture the imagination of voters,” he commented.
The NDP has also raised the fact Boyd’s name is connected to the Global Transportation Hub land sales being investigated by the provincial auditor, but Boyd insists he isn’t hearing any concern from voters.
