Murray Wood: Of Easter bunny bells and Juicy Fruit gum
For Murray Wood, Easter brings to mind grandma's practical advice about repurposing, and some of life's little lessons.
An arbitration board has awarded members of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) a two-year contract.
The approximately 13,500 members will not get a raise in the first year of the agreement but will have a one per cent increase in the second year.
STF President Patrick Maze acknowledged it might be disappointing to teachers, but it comes at a time when the provincial government is calling for wage cutbacks.
According to STF, the arbitrator rejected a proposal from the provincial government to significantly cut sick leave.
Maze said the panel also declined to accept a proposal that would look at class size and compensation concerns.
The new agreement expires on August 31, 2019.
Teachers were without a deal for a little over a year.
