A 30-year-old man is in police custody facing charges stemming from the theft of a Saskatoon taxi.
Police were called around 10:45 p.m. Friday after a report that a cab driver had been robbed at gunpoint by his passenger near the intersection of Avenue C South and 19th Street West.
The suspect allegedly stole cash from the driver, then proceeded to steal the cab. Police said they spotted the vehicle at the intersection of Avenue L South and Schuyler Avenue. Officers tried unsuccessfully to stop the cab. Eventually, patrol officers saw a man run away from the cab near Dudley Street and Avenue J South. A canine unit tracked the suspect to the 1200 block of Avenue J South where he was arrested.
Police recovered an airsoft pistol in the taxi. The suspect was taken to hospital for suffering from dog bites.
The 34-year-old cab driver was not injured.
