Administrative, professional and technical employees at the University of Regina have voted in favour of the option to strike.
The University of Regina Faculty Association (URFA) issued a strike mandate after talks in mid-January failed.
The union says the main issues at stake are layoff provisions, retirement bonus eligibility and compensation. According to the union, the proposal by the university leaves these workers vulnerable to “arbitrary layoff decisions”.
Contract negotiations began in February 2015. The URFA represents 1400 full and part-time employees at the U of R, First Natinos University of Canada, Campion College, and Luther College.
