Potash Corporation cut food banks in Saskatchewan a cheque for $1 million on Monday.
For a sixth year in a row the potash company pledged to match, up to $1 million in donations collected at food banks across the province during the holiday season.
This year the province’s 29 food banks received $1.8 million in donations, and since 2010 more than $15 million has been raised through the campaign.
Food bank usage has been steadily rising in Saskatchewan. The most recent hunger count survey found a 51 per cent rise in food bank usage between 2008 and 2015. Forty-five per cent of people helped by the food banks are children
The money will go toward food purchases and supporting various food bank programs
