A founding member of the Indian Posse is once again in jail.
Richard Wolfe has been sentenced to five years in prison for an attack and sex assault on a couple who were helping him turn his life around while on probation.
The incident happened in a Fort Qu’Appelle home in April 2014.
At a sentencing hearing in November 2015, court heard that the 40-year-old Wolfe was on statutory release from an over near 20-year sentence for attempted murder when he committed the offences.
Having broken his sobriety, he sexually assaulted the woman and then attacked her boyfriend with a baseball bat when he awoke to her screams.
The male victim suffered ongoing nerve damage, migraine headaches and back pain.
Wolfe is the brother of Daniel Wolfe, who was murdered in prison. The Wolfe brothers founded the Indian Posse while serving time and Daniel was one of the six men who escaped from Regina Correctional Centre in August 2008.
Court heard how Wolfe had begun to turn his life around. His childhood was marred by abandonment, addiction, domestic violence and sexual abuse. He at times was the only one who cared for his younger brother. He was in and out of institutions throughout his childhood and early adulthood, but until this point remained sober and was even speaking to young people about the dangers of gang life.
Justice Lian Schwann took those factors into account in sentencing.
Wolfe was sentenced to three and a half years for the sex assault and one and a half years for the assault with a weapon. It will be served consecutively.
Wolfe has been in custody since this April 2014 incident.
