For Murray Wood, Easter brings to mind grandma's practical advice about repurposing, and some of life's little lessons.
There will be some changes coming in 2016 relating to pick-up days when it comes to garbage and recycling in Saskatoon.
It’s part of the city’s attempt to “improve reliability and reduce fuel and emissions,” according to its website.
Recycling will continue to be collected every two weeks.
Green cart no longer just for yard waste
Also in the New Year, people can start putting a lot more items into their green cart.
The city will now accept the following food waste:
- Fruits and vegetables (cooked or raw, including peels and pits)
- Bread, noodles, beans, rice, grains
- Nuts, seeds
- Eggs, eggshells
- Coffee grounds
- Paper teabags, paper coffee filters
- Dry baking ingredients, herbs, spices
- Food-soiled paper napkins, paper towel, and kleenex (must be free of contaminants, such as household cleaners and grease)
- Food-soiled paper plates, cups, and muffin wrappers (un-waxed and un-plasticized)
- Food-soiled pizza boxes (Note: clean pizza boxes go in your Blue Cart to be recycled)
- Wooden stir sticks, chop sticks, popsicle sticks, toothpicks
- Newsprint and paper bags (to wrap food and line containers)
The green cart costs $55 per season.
