Mom of missing Sask. woman doesn't think daughter is alive

It’s been more than a week since Sheree Fertuck vanished after leaving her family’s farm east of Kenaston, Sask. Now, the missing woman’s mother is fearing a Christmas without her daughter.

“I don’t think she’s alive anymore, no. It’s been too long,” Juliann Sorotski told CKOM News following Tuesday’s community search for her daughter.

Fertuck, 51, has been missing since Dec. 7. The truck she used to haul dirt was discovered abandoned near a gravel pit just off Highway 15 the next morning. Inside were her car keys, jacket and cellphone, Sorotski said.

She believes her daughter was abducted, and said RCMP have been questioning many people, including Fertuck’s ex. The two are separated and were in the process of getting a divorce, she said.
 
However, RCMP won’t confirm who they’ve spoken to or if there are any suspects in what they’re calling a suspicious disappearance.

“When you don’t know what’s happened to her or where she might be or who might have taken her, it’s a nightmare. It’s a complete nightmare,” Sorotski said.

On Tuesday, volunteer searchers covered about 65 square kilometres around the Kenaston area but found nothing substantial. A community search will continue Wednesday with about 35 people volunteering their time, coordinator Gene Whitehead said, adding they’ll head back out Thursday as long as the weather holds up.

Sorotski said she’s incredibly thankful for the community support.

“It’s just been overwhelming. My heart is so full of gratitude that it feels like it’s going to burst.”
