Emergency crews were called to Wascana Lake Thursday morning after someone spotted a piece of cloth by an open hole in the ice.
“Of course, they’re concerned about somebody perhaps going through (the ice),” said Murray Ziegler, captain with Regina Fire and Protective Services.
“We had one of our fellas first prod with a pole looking around the perimeter of the hole and right down to the bottom, found nothing. He then went into the hole … found nothing.”
The only thing found in the hole was a tire rim.
Ziegler explained that the ice was tapered, suggesting that it was a natural break rather than something caused by a person going through.
Ziegler added that the ice was actually quite thick at the time.
