On his second day as Canada’s new Public Safety Minister, Regina MP Ralph Goodale is getting right down to business.
Speaking on Gormley Thursday morning, Goodale said he will be tasked with helping tweak the Conservative government’s anti-terror law.
While the Liberals supported Bill C-51, Goodale says it lacks clarity.
“There was no provision for civilian oversight which we think it a great omission,” Goodale explained. “We have a set of proposals to remedy what we think is wrong in C-51.”
Having been the Finance Minister in the past, Goodale said he feels being the Public Safety Minister isn’t a step down.
“(This portfolio has) some of the most serious issues that could ever possibly face a government.”
