Winning a championship in any professional sport isn’t a right, it’s a privilege.
I get it. Yet, every now and then, I think about how unfair it is that some great NHL players have never won a Stanley Cup. Wendel Clark, Bernie Federko and Jarome Iginla come to mind.
All champions of the sport that played the game the right way and never got to celebrate a championship.
On Thursday night Henrik and Daniel Sedin will play in their final home at Rogers Arena after 17 seasons in Vancouver. The ovation will be deafening for two players that each had over 1,000 points in over 1,300 games with one franchise. These are two players that had to overcome the reputation of being soft Swedish born players and went on to have brilliant careers in the world’s best hockey league.
Vancouver was the Stanley Cup runner-up in 2011. The Bruins beat the Canucks in seven games during that summer.
That’s too bad. Henrik and Daniel are championship caliber players.
