After years of waiting, some work could get going on the Capital Pointe project in Regina.
On the heels of a controversy over the old Plains Hotel weather vane, Mayor Michael Fougere said the City has heard from the company in charge.
“They are in contact with our administration, have been recently, to say they want to begin construction and they’re looking for a building permit to start some of the preliminary work once again.”
The Plains Hotel was demolished in 2011. Fougere said he’ll be the first to call the delay frustrating.
“The land’s been vacant for a number of years, but it is owned by the company, they have the right to take their time or do what they want, of course, we can’t force them to build.”
The project has been mired by false starts and empty promises, but the company has said it will make a major announcement next week.
