U.S. fire smoke prompts air quality advisories in Saskatchewan

A month ago we were dealing with smoke from wildfires in Saskatchewan today smoke from the U.S. pacific northwest has drifted into Saskatchewan.
 
The haze prompted Environment Canada to issue air quality alerts for the southwest Tuesday. The alerts stretch from Shaunavon and Swift Current to Kindersley and Rosetown.
 
The weather agency said smoke in that region is expected to float down to the surface by Tuesday afternoon which will result in significant reductions in air quality and reduced visibility.
 
The region is forecast to be on the high end of the air quality health index scale which measures air pollution. At high risk, seniors and young children are recommended to stay indoors.
 
Environment Canada meteorologist Natalie Hasell, said smoke won`t be as much of an issue for Saskatoon and Regina, explaining the air quality will be moderate through the day.
 
“If you are among the susceptible population, you’ll probably start feeling it quite soon. Even at moderate risk, it starts to affect people who are relatively healthy,” she said, suggesting people think about rescheduling outdoor activities.
 
The smoke is expected to linger Tuesday night before a slight improvement Wednesday.
