The business community in Hudson Bay is reeling from a devastating fire Monday evening.
The blaze destroyed a downtown building that housed a salon, a tattoo shop and a furniture business.
“It just impacts our town, because we don’t have a lot of businesses.” Hudson Bay Chamber of Commerce president
Corrine Reine said.
Reine said it was an especially worrying situation because all three businesses were run by young entrepreneurs, a group of people who aren’t always in large supply in a small town of roughly 1500 people.
Building owner Robin Belhumeur, who also ran the tattoo parlour housed inside, said he has no plans to leave Hudson Bay.
“Hudson Bay has been really good to us. It’s where I grew up, it’s home for me. I don’t have any interest to go elsewhere. I’m going to find a way to build back up to where I was.”
He said he’s already looking for a new location in town to re-open his tattoo shop.
No one was hurt in the blaze.
RCMP reported that they still don’t no what started the fire.
Hudson Bay is located about 300 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
