Six weeks ago the Edmonton Rush were the toast of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) winning their first championship.
Now, there is word the Rush, who play in the nine team league are headed east to Saskatchewan.
A report from Global News in Edmonton is suggesting the Rush are leaving the city and relocating to Saskatoon for next season.
Officials with the team were unavailable to comment on the report.
A news conference is scheduled at SaskTel Centre on Tuesday where its believed Rush owner, Bruce Urban will make the announcement official.
Randy Troback is the Executive Director of Saskatoon Box Lacrosse and a Rush season ticket holder. He believes a franchise would be successful in Saskatchewan.
“We’re definitely a province that supports their professional franchises. I think the game would go over well.”
“It’s a short season and I think the province would support it,” said Troback, adding attendance for the city’s junior franchise is one of highest in Western Canada.
The Rush would become the second NLL team to announced plans to relocate in the same year.
The Minnesota Swarm announced in May the team will leave Minnesota. They have applied to the league to play in a different market for the 2016 season.
