They lost out on a quarter of a million dollars, but a campaign to bring a ski hill to Saskatoon says they are still on schedule.
Optimist Hill made the final four of the national Kraft-Heinz Project Play. The contest awarded Canadian communities with money for local sports projects.
In the end the small town Goderich, Ont. took home the $250,000 grand prize.
“We gave it a great effort,” Joe Van’t Hof, co-chair of the Optimist Hill Campaign said. “Saskatoon and Saskatchewan should be proud.”
The grand prize would have been a substantial boost to the $1.9 fundraising goal. The plan is to raise the hill at Diefenbaker Park and construct chairlifts.
Van’t Hof says they are just a bit shy of that number right now.
“We’re fully committed to building the hill in the spring of 2018.”
For finishing in the top four, Saskatoon receives a $20,000 prize
