The 27th annual C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research has come to an end after a day filled with tears, laughs, memories and – most importantly – hope.
This year’s marathon raised $628,427 bringing the total raised since the first event in 2000 to $8,028,427. This year’s total was an all-time record for the event.

That first radio marathon was held in support of C95 morning host Lisa Rendall, who was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in October 2000. Rendall passed away on April 13, 2011.
This year’s event was held at Midtown Plaza from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., raising money for the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan in support of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency’s local breast cancer research projects.
The annual event aims to raise not just money, but also awareness, both of which make a significant difference in the fight against cancer, according to Nora Yeates, CEO of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.
“We know that early detection saves lives, and that more funds for research means progress towards a healthier future for the women we care about – our mothers, daughters, sisters, and aunts,” Yeates said.
“We are incredibly grateful to C95 and to the amazing generosity of our donors and the people of Saskatchewan, who help us continue life-saving research right here at home.”
The marathon also brought attention to the stories of several people who have been affected by the disease. Sisters Lila and Julia McCormick shared their stories of undergoing surgery on the same day, after their mother was previously diagnosed.
