Residents of Saskatoon who experienced property damage during a rainstorm on Sept. 7 can now apply for financial help through Saskatchewan’s Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.
According to the City of Saskatoon, the provincial government has approved its request to designate the city as an Eligible Assistance Area after the storm dumped upwards of 80 millimetres of rain on the city. Terry Norman of Rainbow Restoration said his phone was ringing off the hook the morning after the storm as many residents sought help dealing with flooded basements, roof leaks and other issues.

The City of Saskatoon said residents seeking financial assistance must submit an application directly to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program. The city recommended reviewing the program’s guidelines first in order to understand eligibility requirements, the types of damages and expenses that may be considered and the information and documentation needed to support claims.
Claims must be submitted by March 7, the city said, and eligible repair work must be completed by Sept. 7.
Information and application packages can be picked up in the lobby of City Hall on Third Avenue North starting Monday, the city said.
