Swift Current to host Canadian Curling Club Championships in 2027

Some of the top curlers in Canada will descend on Swift Current next year for the Canadian Curling Club Championships.

Curling Canada announced on Tuesday that the Swift Current Curling Club has been selected to host the 18th edition of the championship event, which runs from Nov. 23-28, 2027.

“We are incredibly proud to welcome the Canadian Curling Club Championships to Swift Current, marking the first time this national championship has been hosted in Saskatchewan,” Nolan Thiessen, Curling Canada’s CEO, said in a statement.

“Swift Current has been an exemplary host in the past and we know this time will be no different. This event perfectly reflects what makes curling such a special sport. It is truly a sport for life, bringing people together through competition, community, and lifelong participation. The Canadian Curling Club Championships celebrate curlers who are the lifeblood of our game, and we are proud to invest in this event as it aligns directly with our commitment to creating opportunities for Canadians of all ages and abilities to stay engaged in curling.”

Saskatchewan teams will be aiming to end a dry spell when the championships hit their home ice. No women’s team from the province has ever won the tournament, and the last time a male team from Saskatchewan took the title was in 2014, when Kork Kohuch’s Saskatoon team came out on top. The province’s only other victory at the event came in 2010, when Darren Camm led his Saskatoon-based team to gold.

“We’re grateful for the tremendous honour to host this national championship event here in our city. We look forward to welcoming people from across the country, extending our prairie hospitality and making this event unforgettable for curling fans and participants.”

Melody Robertson, president of the Swift Current Curling Club and chair of the host committee, said the club has a long history of hosting major curling events.

“We look forward to continuing that success by hosting the Canadian Curling Club Championships 2027,” Robertson said in a statement. “We cannot wait to meet all the successful club curlers and to show them a wonderful time here in Swift Current and the great Southwest.”

This year’s edition of the Canadian Curling Club Championships will be played at the St. Thomas Curling Club in Ontario from Nov. 21-28.
