Murray Wood says we are being told we have to accept homeless encampments in city parks. Do we, really?
The skies above Saskatoon will light up this Labour Day weekend, as the Nutrien Fireworks Festival takes place Friday and Saturday.
There are several places to view the show, just don’t expect to watch it from the park where the fireworks are being launched.
“Rotary Park will be closed. You will not be able to get in there to watch,” said Shad Ali, one of the organizers of the festival, during an appearance on the CKOM Morning Show with Mark Loshack.

However, there will be several places in the area from which to watch the displays, as well as get food and watch entertainment.
“There are great spaces along River Landing one and River Landing two to watch. The pump house area and so on are also fabulous areas to watch,” Ali explained.
Ali added there are various reasons to make attending the event a multi-night affair.
“There are unique pyro musicals each night, so Friday night’s show is different from Saturday night’s show, different music. I saw the song list, it’s amazing what they’ve put together,” Ali said.
Nutrien Fireworks Festival to close parts of Spadina Crescent, Traffic Bridge
Saskatoon drivers will have to heed road closures and lane restrictions along some common routes beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The annual Nutrien Fireworks Festival will keep parts of Spadina Crescent and Saskatoon’s Traffic Bridge closed until Sunday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m.
According to a release from the City of Saskatoon, detour signs will be in place to help guide motorists.
Due to staging, Spadina Crescent will be closed from 7 p.m. Sept. 3 through 10 a.m. Sept. 6 between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue.
From 9 a.m. Sept. 4 through 10 a.m. Sept. 6, closures will be in place for the Traffic Bridge between 11th and 19th streets, 2nd Avenue between Saunders Place and Spadina Crescent, and 3rd Avenue between 19th Street and the Traffic Bridge.
“Drivers are reminded to drive carefully and watch for participants,” the City said, thanking people for their patience.
The Nutrien Fireworks Festival is happening in Saskatoon’s River Landing area on Sept. 4 and 5, featuring food, live entertainment and nightly fireworks displays, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
