Highway 16 has been restricted to one lane near the Borden Bridge, northwest of Saskatoon, after a vehicle struck a bridge on Wednesday.
According to the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline, police are on the scene, and drivers were advised to slow down and be prepared to stop as they approach the crash site.

Photos shared to social media showed a semi hauling a large load which appeared to have collided with a bridge. The bridge’s height limit can be seen displayed on a sign directly above the spot where the semi’s load made contact.

“Slow down and use caution,” the highway hotline noted. “Please be advised that OD loads cannot make it through at this time.”
Shelby McLean said she was on her way home from Regina to the Battlefords along Highway 16 at around 11:30 a.m. when she noticed flashing lights ahead of her.
“As I got closer, I saw the hopper bins near the bottom of the train (bridge), so I started slowing down,” she explained.
As she was waiting to get through the area, McLean said she noticed the state of the oversized load, and a Highway Patrol vehicle behind the semi truck’s trailer.
“I believe it was two grain bin hoppers, one stacked behind the other. One was folded up pretty good where it hit the train bridge there, and the other one was skidded right off the back of the trailer,” she described.
“The whole two lanes were closed down. We were kind of skirting past on the shoulder.”
McLean added that there appeared to be some damage to the overpass, but the grain bin equipment appeared to have fared much worse.
An RCMP spokesperson noted that the crash is being investigated by the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, but noted that drivers should expect delays when passing through the area.
The crash is the latest in a series of bridge and overpass collisions in Saskatchewan this summer, including six in Saskatoon.
Most recently, a crash on Circle Drive in Saskatoon left a 27-year-old man dead. According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, the man’s vehicle struck the overpass and burst into flames.
