Man charged with aggravated assault after machete attack in Saskatoon: Police

A 26-year-old man was arrested last week after allegedly attacking another man with a machete.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Saskatoon Police Service, officers were called to 20th Street West just after 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning after getting a report that a person had been injured in an assault involving a machete.

“Upon police arrival, a suspect was located and detained without further incident,” the police force said in a statement.

“Shortly after, police located a 32-year-old man with what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical treatment.”

Police said the 26-year-old suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and breaching court-imposed conditions.

Woman assaulted and robbed downtown

Police responded to a report of a robbery in progress in downtown Saskatoon on Friday afternoon.

According to police, a woman was waiting for a bus in the 200 block of First Avenue South when she was approached by another woman, who assaulted her and stole her phone, headphones and water bottle.

The victim was not seriously injured in the alleged assault, police said. The suspect was described as having short hair and wearing sunglasses, a white zip-up top, white shoes, blue jean shorts and a burgundy backpack.
