The City of Prince Albert has been ordered to pay $130,000 after admitting to a violation of provincial safety regulations in an incident which left a worker badly injured in 2024.
According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, the city pleaded guilty to a single violation of the provincial regulations in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Aug. 13.

The rule in question requires employers to “provide and maintain plant, systems of work and working environments that ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety and welfare at work of the employer’s workers.”
Two additional charges were withdrawn after the guilty plea was entered.
The charges stemmed from an incident on July 4, 2024, when a worker in Prince Albert was struck by cement blocks sliding out of a raised dump bed, leaving them with serious injuries.
The court fined the city $92,857.14, along with a victim fine surcharge of $37,142.86, for a total payment of $130,000.
