MONTREAL — Montreal police say they suspended a fourth officer as part of an investigation into a patrol unit accused of racism and misconduct in a multicultural Montreal neighbourhood.
Allegations made public in June included claims that officers on the 16-member unit cut the hair of racialized citizens and kept it as trophies.
Police previously said that they had disbanded the unit, disarming all of the officers and suspending three of them.
The latest suspension took effect on Aug. 19 and involves an officer who worked with the unit at Station 39 in the Montréal-Nord neighbourhood.
Police have provided few details about the allegations.
They have referred some of the evidence to public prosecutors as their professional standards division pursues its investigation.
