Peter Boersch is doing double duty this year.
The running back is not only looking to help the Regina Thunder claim a national junior football title, but he’s also practising with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It’s a great problem to have. People ask me if I’m tired and it definitely adds up. Football is my day and night. Not many people get the blessing of being on one football team full-time but I get to be on two and I get to be a part of both families,” Boersch said. “It’s been amazing.”
He also gets to learn from someone who knows what it’s like to be a junior football player trying to make it in the pros.
Current Riders running backs coach and former CFL star running back Andrew Harris was a member of the Vancouver Island Raiders before eventually joining the B.C. Lions.
Harris then went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts as he rushed for 10,380 yards and 51 touchdowns on the way to four Grey Cup rings as a player and one more with the Riders last season.
“You couldn’t have picked a better coach for my scenario because he did it the way I want to do it. He’s one of the best to ever do it in all of Canadian football. He’s also an incredibly great coach and very well-spoken.”
The Thunder is off to a 2-0 start and Boersch is once again proving to be one of the best rushers in the Canadian Junior Football League.
Last season, the Regina-born rusher had a conference-leading 1,436 yards in eight regular-season and two playoff games. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry and scored five touchdowns.
This season through two games, Boersch has 391 yards.
“It’s a really exciting team. We have a lot of new pieces mixed in with some veteran mainstays. I think one group gets to feed off the other. Whether that’s the young guys being super energetic and excited and maybe that gets the grumpy, old vets moving a little faster or maybe they can look to us for a steady, calming presence,” Boersch said.
“What really sticks out to me about the team this year is we are close. There are no cliques in the locker room and we are all really excited to be a part of something special and that’s what’s ultimately going to make this a special team.”
But he’s not focused on any sort of individual achievement this season.
“It’s a pretty simple goal this year and that’s just (to) win a national championship. Nothing but a national championship is going to be good enough this year,” Boersch said.
The Thunder will play their first home game of the season on Sunday at Liebel Field against the Winnipeg Rifles. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m.
