Folkfest returns to Saskatoon on Friday and Saturday, bringing food, displays and entertainment from 11 cultures together under one roof. The 47th edition of the diverse celebration will highlight Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Latino countries, Nepal, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam.

“Saskatoon Folkfest is dedicated to immersing visitors in a vibrant, multi-cultural atmosphere through cuisine, entertainment, and exhibits,” the event’s website stated.
In addition to celebrating cultures from around the globe, the event will also present the Dr. Kalra Award for Diversity and Harmony. According to the website, the award is given to “those who actively demonstrate strength in areas of leadership, promoting diversity, volunteering, and is committed to culture and heritage in the multicultural community.”
This year’s recipients are Kiela Caudillo, an artist originally from Mexico, and Priyanka Nandi, the first woman elected secretary of the Bangladesh Community Association of Saskatchewan.
Folkfest runs from 3 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday at Prairieland Park. Admission is $10, and children under 12 can attend for free.
