Two men hurt as scaffolding falls in front of downtown Regina building

Pieces of metal and tree branches littered the road on Hamilton Street in Regina on Tuesday afternoon after scaffolding apparently fell in front of The Hamilton, near 12th Ave.

Around 2 p.m., there was what police called a “workplace accident.”

Police, fire and EMS responded and found two men who’d been hurt. They were taken to hospital with what police said appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Police and Occupational Health and Safety were still on scene as of 5 p.m and police said Hamilton Street is closed to both vehicles and pedestrians between 11th Avenue and 12th Avenue and people should choose an alternative route.

Scaffolding was still set up in front of the building, with a large piece covered in a blue tarp that appeared to have fallen and was stuck in the branches of a tree.

Louise Lachapelle was with her family in front of the building when it happened. She said they’d just gotten out of their vehicle.

“Just as we closed the door, everything fell down, we could hear the pipes clanging and bricks fell on the car,” she explained.

She and her family were alright, but she said the vehicle wasn’t.
