Drivers in Saskatoon may need to take a few detours starting this weekend as the city begins roadwork projects on Idylwyld Drive and 33rd Street.
The project that is expected to have the biggest impact is the closure of the median at the intersection of Idylwyld and 71st Street, which will close on Friday.

“Traffic on 71st Street will be required to turn right onto Idylwyld Drive and left turns off Idylwyld Drive at 71st Street will be prohibited,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.
“This closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 3 months.”
On Saturday, lane restrictions will be put in place on Idylwyld between Circle Drive East and the Circle Drive South overpass to allow for road patching work.
“One lane will be open for general traffic during this work. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the area,” the city noted.
“These restrictions are expected to take one day, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.”
Saturday will also mark the start of road resurfacing work on 33rd Street between Edmonton Avenue and Avenue P North.
The work will take place in two phases, with workers resurfacing lanes in one driving direction at a time. The first phase is expected to wrap up on Sunday, the city said, with the second phase tentatively scheduled for Aug. 15-16.
The city said two-way traffic will be maintained during the work, but warned that drivers should expect to slow down and be ready for possible delays.
“Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow all posted signs and use caution when travelling through the work zone,” the city said in a statement.
“Thank you for your patience as we complete this important road maintenance work.”
