Saskatchewan Mounties solved 23 of 34 homicide cases in 2025, RCMP says

The Saskatchewan RCMP says its officers solved 23 of 34 homicide cases in 2025, with 30 people charged.

According to the RCMP, officers investigated 34 manslaughter and murder cases last year, with a total of 40 victims. Those cases ended with eight first-degree murder charges, 18 second-degree murder charges and four manslaughter charges, with 11 files still under investigation.

“Our investigators bring the experience and knowledge necessary to determine what happened, support those affected, and find answers for victims’ loved ones,” inspector Ashley St. Germaine, the acting officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch, said in a statement.

“The public often hears about the beginning and the end of homicide investigations. What they may not know about is the work that goes on in between. Homicide investigations require extensive collaboration across the RCMP, including among specialized investigators, frontline officers and support personnel.”

St. Germaine said police are still working to close the files that have not yet been solved, noting that much of the work happens outside the public’s view.

“Every step taken in an investigation is done carefully and strategically, to protect its integrity and move the case forward,” St. Germaine said. “Often this means details can’t be shared publicly, but work continues behind the scenes.”

The RCMP said so far in 2026, its Saskatchewan officers have opened 21 homicide cases with 21 victims, a significant jump from the 16 cases with 19 victims reported at the same time in 2025.

“Fifteen of the homicides in 2026 have been brought to charge, while six remain under investigation,” the RCMP noted.
