Residents of central and southern Saskatchewan might want to stock up on ice cream.
Heat warnings from Environment Canada blanketed all of southern Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning, along with east-central and west-central regions of the province. The area covered by the warnings stretched from Alberta to Manitoba in the south, reaching as far north as Biggar, Kindersley and Kerrobert in the west, and as far north as Nipawin, Melfort and Tisdale in the east.

The warning area included Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Estevan, Weyburn, Canora, Maple Creek and the surrounding areas.
While Saskatoon and Prince Albert were not covered, both communities were essentially surrounded by heat warnings on Tuesday.
“Daytime high temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius, combined with overnight lows near 16 are expected over the coming days for portions of southern Saskatchewan,” Environment Canada said in a statement.
“Extreme temperatures are expected to continue into the weekend.”

In east-central Saskatchewan things will be a bit cooler, but not by much. Environment Canada said residents in the Melfort region can expect daytime highs of 28-30 C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Regina’s forecast showed highs of 32 C for both Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by 30 C on Thursday.
“Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness,” Environment Canada cautioned.
“Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.”
Meteorologist Brian Luzny said humidity will play a roll in how hot it feels outside.
The area around Yorkton, Melville and Hudson Bay is expected to have a humidex of 38 on Tuesday.
“What’s going to happen is you’re going to break out into sweat a lot quicker,” Luzny explained. “You’re going to get that feeling where you feel icky and yucky just quicker, when you have the air being so humid.”
The heat warnings could be dropped briefly on Thursday, Luzny said, but the heat wave is expected to continue until Monday.
Saskatoon wasn’t covered by the heat warnings, but residents of the Bridge City can still expect several hot days this week, with Environment Canada forecasting highs of 29 C on Tuesday and 27 C on Wednesday.
Luzny said there is a strong possibility the heat warning could expand to include other areas, including the Bridge City.
“It’s possible that they will come later this week,” he said. “At this point haven’t hit threshold. They’re kind of like two or three degrees below threshold, but looks like warmer temperature is coming Wednesday through Saturday.”
