Today marks the official first day of summer, but people wanting to get outdoors in Saskatoon might want to check before heading to their neighbourhood park.
According to the City of Saskatoon’s website, as part of its Park Upgrade Program 19 parks are scheduled to undergo changes this season, “to address deficiencies and bring them up to current standards.”

Those upgrades could include enhancements like better pathways and lighting, upgraded landscaping, and updates to seating and picnic tables.
From the city’s website, the following eight parks are listed for either general upgrades or have newly planted areas in the “process of establishing”:
• Boughton Park in Holiday Park
• Ernest Lindner Park in Erindale
• Forest Grove Linkage in Forest Grove
• Herbert Stewart Park in Sutherland
• Kistikan Park in Eastview
• Leif Erickson Park in Westmount
• Parkridge Park in Parkridge
• Robert Hunter West Park in River Heights
According to the website, the most impacted park will be Ernest Lindner, which is set to close entirely from July to October for construction. The money for this particular upgrade is coming from the federal government.
There are also a couple of parks scheduled for play structure upgrades:
• Lt GG Simmonds Park
• Herbert Stewart Park
According to the city’s website, Szumigalski Park’s play structure has already been updated and Idywyld Park’s was put on hold until next summer.
Then, with majority of the funding coming from the federal government, the following nine parks will have their drainage upgraded:
• Parc Canada Park
• John Duerkop Park
• Rouillard Park
• Swick Park
• Klombies Park
• Hyde Park
• Varley Park
• Wallace Park
• Draggins Car Club Park
