A 23-year-old man from Hitchcock, Sask. has been charged with weapons trafficking, along with several gun charges, after an RCMP investigation that unfolded in the Estevan area early this month.
According to a statement issued by the Mounties on Wednesday, officers with the federal police force got a report from officers in Estevan back on June 3, reporting a man who was allegedly in possession of a stolen gun.

The RCMP said officers investigating the tip raided a rural home in the RM of Estevan on June 8, where they arrested a man and seized four guns and ammunition. Police also found an empty casing which resulted in a call to the RCMP’s explosive disposal unit, though it was ultimately found to be empty.
Police said officers also seized a gun at a home in Frobisher, Sask., which had allegedly been illegally sold.
In addition to the trafficking charge, the RCMP said the 23-year-old man is facing four charges of possessing a firearm while knowing it is unauthorized, four counts of unsafe storage of firearms, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
He made his first court appearance in Estevan last Thursday, police said, and is due back in court next week
Île-à-la-Crosse man charged after allegedly driving into RCMP vehicle
In a separate case, the RCMP said a 27-year-old man from Île-à-la-Crosse was arrested after allegedly crashing into an RCMP vehicle in a stolen truck last week.
Police said officers spotted the truck, which had been reported stolen from Prince Albert, in the nearby community of Little Red River early on Friday afternoon.
“Officers positioned their police vehicles around the stolen truck. As an officer was exiting their vehicle, the stolen truck reversed at a high rate of speed and collided with the police vehicle,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Following the collision, the driver of the stolen truck exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The male was arrested by police officers at the scene.”
Police said no injuries resulted from the crash, but the police vehicle was left inoperable.
“During a subsequent search of the stolen truck, Prince Albert RCMP located a sawed-off firearm and a knife,” the RCMP added.
Police said the man has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, mischief over $5,000, possessing weapons contrary to an order and breaching court-ordered conditions.
He appeared in court in Prince Albert on Monday, the RCMP said.
Man facing child porn charges after arrest in Gull Lake
A 25-year-old man is facing three charges related to child pornography after his rarest on Tuesday.
According to police, officers raided a home in Gull Lake on Tuesday, where they seized electronics. The man was arrested the same day, and he’s been charged with possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, along with making the material availble and distributing the material.
He appeared in court on Tuesday, police said, and was released ahead of a court date set for July 22 in Swift Current.
