City of Regina crews are just finishing up dealing with damaged city trees following Tuesday’s storm.
Ashley Thompson, the city’s manager of parks – technical services, says around 53 calls for service came in immediately after the storm for downed or damaged trees.

A few more have come in since, bringing the total to 60, including two that had to be removed.
“It wasn’t terrible, not as bad as we thought it was going to be,” Thompson said. “The storm earlier in May was quite a bit worse than this one was.”
That storm took around four days for the city to finish up with tree damage. On Friday, Thompson said they were just finishing up with the Tuesday storm.
“And then we will do some follow-up assessments on some of the trees where large branches had fallen, just to see if they need to be removed or repaired,” she said.
The same storm has resulted in more than 5,000 vehicle damage claims to SGI, along with around 400 property claims.
Thompson’s numbers only refer to parks and city easements. However, crews will respond to a downed tree on private property if it is blocking a public road.
She says if anyone has a damaged city tree, they should call the city as soon as possible.
“Crews will work hard to prioritize kind of the most dangerous ones first. If it involves a power line, call SaskPower, and if it is on private property, then it is up to the homeowner to clean it up themselves.”
Thompson says the patience of homeowners has been appreciated during these storms.
