“The caller reported an adult male had entered the business, grabbed various grocery items and attempted to leave the store without paying,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“When employees approached the suspect, he threatened them with a knife before leaving the business on foot.”
Police said officers caught up with the alleged shoplifter a short distance from the store, where he was arrested without further incident. He was found to be carrying a knife, police noted.
The 37-year-old man is now facing two charges of assault with a weapon, police said, along with charges of shoplifting under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
He’s expected to appear in court in July.
