An Edmonton acro dance team owned and choreographed by a woman from Regina has made it to the final of one of the world’s biggest talent shows.
The dance team from Supernova Acro Studio was given a golden buzzer during their performance on the show on Tuesday night, putting them into the finals. The team’s owner and choreographer, Jill Ford, is the daughter of Saskatchewan Roughriders legend Al Ford.

The performance featured acrobatic dancers accompanied by acrobatic dogs, which impressed the celebrity judging panel.
“I’ve never seen an act like this before,” show host Howie Mandel wrote on social media, sharing a video of the team’s performance.

Ford said the team travelled to Los Angeles back in March to film their performance for the show.
“We met lots of talented acts and different people. They treated us like gold,” she explained.
“There were cameras in our faces all day, so you really felt like a celebrity, and it was exciting. We were down there for four days, so we had a rehearsal on the stage, and lots of interviews.”
Ford said it was an intimidating experience for the dancers, but it was an amazing experience.
“It was really fun, especially for these kids. They’re so young,” Ford said.
“To be on the world’s biggest stage, that was quite, quite nerve-racking. My daughter, who’s 21, said ‘I’ve never been more nervous in my life,’ just because you’re having to talk to Simon Cowell and these judges, and it’s a lot of pressure, but they handled it really well.”
Ford said her father, a well known figure in Saskatchewan, is a huge fan of the show, and he was excited to watch the team perform on Tuesday.
The team, which hosted a big party on Tuesday night to watch themselves on stage, will now return to L.A. for the next round of competition.
