A teenage boy is facing four criminal charges after allegedly making threats related to a school on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
According to the RCMP, police got a report about a potential threat to the school — which was not named by police — on May 11. The school was locked down as officers searched the school, but no threat was located. The lockdown was extended throughout the day on Monday, and classes were also cancelled on May 12, the RCMP added.

“Investigation determined the initial report originated from outside of Canada,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
“The individual had observed threatening content, directed toward the school, on a social media platform.”
Police said officers arrested the teen, a student at the school, at a home on the First Nation on Tuesday. At the home, police said officers seized a BB gun, a knife and an axe.
The teen, who cannot be named due to provisions in Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, is now facing three charges of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, along with an additional charge of uttering threats.
He appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court this week, police said, and was remanded into custody ahead of a second appearance scheduled for next week.
Regina teen charged in separate incident
The case in Sturgeon Lake is not the only school threat police in Saskatchewan reported this week.
Police in Regina said officers were alerted on Wednesday afternoon after a 16-year-old boy allegedly threatened to bring a gun to Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School.
The teen was arrested, and is now facing a charge of uttering threats.
Additionally, police said a 38-year-old man “who cannot be named because it would identify the youth” was charged with careless storage of a firearm in connection with the investigation into the alleged threat. He’s expected to appear in Regina Provincial Court next month.
