Construction on the new Weyburn General Hospital has officially wrapped up, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health announced this week, and the public can expect the 35-bed facility to open its doors later this year.

The hospital features 25 acute-care beds, 10 inpatient mental health treatment beds, a heliport and office space for the hospital foundation, the ministry said. The province spent $134 million on the facility, with additional costs, furniture and equipment funded by community donors and the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation.
“We are very pleased to see construction complete on the new Weyburn General Hospital and look forward to the grand opening of this great new facility,” Derek Miller, the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.
“Our SHA teams are now leading the activation phase, which includes moving in furniture, fixtures and equipment and careful attention to patient experience, staff preparation and continuity of care.”
Jeff Hayward, the hospital foundation’s board chair, called it an “extraordinary milestone” for Weyburn and the surrounding area.
“This facility is the result of years of commitment, collaboration, and generosity from countless individuals, businesses, and partners who believed in this vision,” Hayward said, quoted in a ministry statement.
“On behalf of the Foundation Board, we are proud to see it come to fruition and look forward to the meaningful impact it will have — improving access to care, enhancing services, and supporting the health and well-being of our community for generations to come.”
Lori Carr, Saskatchewan’s rural and remote health minister, thanked the partners who helped make the new hospital a reality and supported the project.
“Our government stands by its promise to put patients first and I look forward to opening day, where residents will have convenient access to all their healthcare needs,” Carr said.
