The southwestern Saskatchewan Town of Leader has stopped drawing water from the South Saskatchewan River following a fuel spill upstream near Medicine Hat.
Town officials said in a Facebook post on May 1 that the affected water is expected to reach the community’s intake on Sunday. It is not known what caused the fuel spill.

The post said the town is working with the Water Security Agency to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
Leader is about 30 km east of the Alberta border, at the junction of Highways 21 and 32 and about 150 km northwest of Swift Current.
