Legendary Saskatchewan musician Kenny Shields has died.
Shields, born in Nokomis, first came to prominence as the lead singer for Regina-based band Witness Incorporated.
However, a 1970 car accident left him unable to continue touring and it appeared his career might be over.
But Shields would end up producing some of his best-known work after coming back in 1975, first with a new version of Witness, and then with what was likely his most famous project: Streetheart.
The quintet went on to put out a string of hits through the late ’70s and early ’80s, including Action, Hollywood, and a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Under My Thumb.
The band, touring as Kenny Shields and Streetheart, had to cancel its shows in 2017 after Shields had to undergo emergency heart surgery.
Bandmate Jeff Neal confirmed Shields’ death Friday on Facebook. He was 69 years old.
