Saskatoon police officers responded to several incidents involving bear spray over the long weekend.
Around 11:10 a.m. on April 2, police responded to a report of a man bear sprayed on a city bus in the 2500 block of 8th Street East.
When officers arrived, they learned there were no injuries and, shortly after, found the victim of the incident. The man did not want further medical care, police said.
The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.
Police are still investigating this incident and request anyone with information contact Saskatoon police or Crime Stoppers.
The next day, around 12:50 a.m., police received a report that four men were at a doorstep in the 3400 block of Fairlight Drive, allegedly with bear spray.
Officers who responded to the scene learned that two men had been walking home when four other men approached them. One pointed a can of bear spray at the two victims.
Other police officers who responded were able to find two men who police said matched the suspect descriptions. Officers found two cans of bear spray on one of those men, according to information in a police news release.
Police have charged a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old with assault with a weapon, with the 14-year-old also facing two counts each of possession of a weapon and concealing a weapon.
Later on April 3 around 1:30 p.m., Saskatoon police responded to a business in the 2200 block of 22nd Street West for a report of a weapons offence. The call to police reported a woman had allegedly been assaulting people with a metal pole.
When police arrived, officers saw a woman open the front doors of the business and spray bear spray inside. Police arrested the woman and while they were doing so, another woman left the business carrying a metal pole. Police also arrested the second woman.
According to police, the two women had been in a fight prior to officers arriving at the scene.
Both women are facing charges. A 21-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon, while a 26-year-old woman is charged with mischief over $5,000, possession of a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Both women have been charged with breaching court-imposed conditions.
Around 1:55 p.m. on the same day, police received a report that someone had sprayed bear spray inside the mall at the 300 block of Confederation Drive.
Officers who responded found a man suffering the effects of the spray. Police learned that suspects allegedly tried to steal from the victim. The suspects then sprayed the man with bear spray and fled.
Officers searched the area for the suspects but did not find them and continue to investigate.
