A 26-year-old Prince Albert man is facing a list of charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly hitting an RCMP officer with an SUV during a high-speed chase with police in Meadow Lake.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Saskatchewan RCMP, the incident began shortly after noon on Monday when a police officer in Meadow Lake allegedly saw the driver of the SUV run a stop sign at the corner of First Avenue and Centre Street.

Police said the officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the SUV took off towards Highway 55 “at a high rate of speed.”
After multiple attempts to pull over the fleeing driver failed, the RCMP said an officer set out a spike belt on Highway 4, at the junction with Highway 55, in order to puncture the SUV’s tires.
“As the police officer deployed the spike belt, the white SUV struck the police officer. The officer was treated at a hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
“The white SUV drove over the tire deflation device and police officers located the white SUV abandoned approximately four kilometres away.”
The RCMP said officers quickly tracked down and arrested a man and woman who were believed to be inside the SUV during the chase.
“The two suspects did not report injuries to police,” the RCMP noted.
Police said the 26-year-old man who was allegedly behind the wheel – a resident of Prince Albert – is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, flight from police, dangerous driving, impaired driving and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
The 26-year-old woman was charged with fleeing police and resisting or obstructing an officer, the RCMP added.
Both of the suspects appeared in court in Meadow Lake on Thursday, the RCMP noted.
