A $2 million partnership between the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Dentistry and the São Paulo Research Foundation will see 50 research projects funded over the next five years.
The foundation, funded by the Brazillian state of São Paulo, has a mandate to support research projects across all fields, and the university said the new agreement will support 10 joint research grants each year over the five-year term of the partnership.

“This unique partnership is a strong example of USask creating new avenues for international collaborations,” Dr. Baljit Singh, the university’s vice-president of research, said in a statement.
Each of the projects funded under the partnership must include at least one principal investigator from the dental college and at least one collaborator or co-principal from another college or school at the university, along with a principal investigator from a university or research institute in the Brazillian state.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to advancing oral health through global collaboration, positioning the College of Dentistry and USask as leaders in international research focused on oral, dental, and craniofacial innovation,” added Dr. Walter Siqueira, the dental college’s dean.
“By strengthening collaboration with leading researchers across the State of São Paulo, this agreement expands internationalization opportunities for our faculty and trainees while building sustainable global partnerships that advance discovery and innovation.”
The deadline for submission of proposals is May 19, the university noted.
