“That’s something that I’ve never been able to be a part of here,” she said.
“We’re in such a male dominated workplace environment, so it’s an incredible honour to be able to celebrate and recognize the women that are a part of this organization.”
The three-plane formation soared over top of base on Friday morning in celebration of International Women’s Day on Sunday.
Sampson currently serves as a CT 156 Harvard II Flight Instructor at 15 Wing Moose Jaw.
She has been with the Canadian Armed Forces since 2018, and said there has been a “dramatic shift” in terms of opportunities for women since she started.

“It’s really exciting to be able to look around and see all these inspiring women that I work with every day, doing what we love and excelling at what we do all together,” Sampson said.
Sampson was first told by one of the women who mentored her to “never let yourself be the one to hold yourself back.”
“Something that I genuinely think about every single day is I never want to be the one that’s telling myself no,” she said.

Lieutenant Colonel Kim Wilton has always worked in male dominated workplaces, starting her career as a long-haul truck driver.
She said she spent a large part of her time with the military as the only woman in the room.
“I’ve had incredible opportunities, even though I’m still the minority often in the room” Wilton said. “Even if your interests are something non-traditional, follow through, because there’s great opportunity.”

She now serves as the commandant of the 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School.
Wilton said its been satisfying to see women be put in larger roles with the military.
“There’s certainly challenges, but is there’s more opportunity than challenges, I would say, right now,” she said. “So, sky’s the limit, as they say, right?”
